Barndominium House Plans
Barndominium plans put a conditioned living space inside a post frame or steel clear-span shell. That structural choice is the whole story: widely spaced posts carry the roof instead of closely spaced load-bearing walls, which is why the shell is cheap to build, why the interior can be laid out almost anywhere, and why so many of these plans put a workshop or garage bay under the same roof as the house. The savings are real in the structure and enclosure and they do not extend to the kitchen and baths, which cost what they cost in any house. The plans below range from compact one-story homes to large shop-house layouts, and include a handful of standalone barndominium-style garages and carriage houses.
